So, it looks like SpaceX Starlink is getting a European competitor, and unlike the Starlink monstrosity which now has 7,000 (with plans for 30,000 more) of its terrible LEO satellites wrecking astronomy and creating the potential for a Kessler syndrome catastrophe... "The IRIS² constellation will consist of 264 spacecraft in low Earth orbit and 18 in medium Earth orbit." https://www.theverge.com/2024/12/16/24322358/iris2-starlink-rival-europe-date-cost Apparently, using satellites at multiple elevations makes it possible to use many fewer satelites.
