Republican Texas AG Ken Paxton is acquitted of 16 corruption charges at historic impeachment trial
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been acquitted of all charges at his impeachment trial. The verdict Saturday reaffirmed Paxton’s durability in America’s biggest red state. It’s also a broader victory for Texas’ hard right after an extraordinary trial that underscored fractures within the GOP nationally. Paxton was charged with 16 articles of impeachment accusing him of misconduct, bribery and corruption. He was accused of using his office to help a campaign donor who was under FBI investigation. He still faces trial on felony securities fraud charges and remains under a separate FBI investigation.

Impeachment case alleges Texas AG Ken Paxton used multiple phones and an alias to conceal an affair
New documents released in the impeachment case against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton allege that he used multiple cellphones and an alias on a ride-sharing app to help conceal an affair. They also accuse him of pressuring top aides who later reported Paxton to the FBI. The documents released late Thursday are the foundation of House Republicans’ case that Paxton abused his office and should be ousted at the end of a historic impeachment trial that begins Sept. 5 in the Texas Capitol. Paxton has broadly denied wrongdoing and waved off the accusations as politically motivated.
