My aunt just asked my opinion of "Karma Search -- the search engine that takes care of biodiversity and animal welfare". I'd never heard of it before -- I think they're kicking off a N. American marketing campaign. Reviewing their site and FAQ (https://mykarma.notion.site/FAQ-cb51ac0956484daf8ede50028a3a89c7), they're a French for-profit company (founded by a former telecom and music industry exec) which parlays income from sponsored links into donations to nonprofits -- currently, Humane Society Int'l and Re:Wild. They say they don't track users. Search results are provided by the Brave engine (although they may also use Bing). I guess it seems relatively harmless, but my reflexive reaction is 🙄.
