My John LeCarréthon continues. Finished #ASmallTownInGermany and diving into a couple of podcasts to ‘deep dive’ the novel… interesting to hear a TV adaptation being talked about. This novel actually resonated with me and could be quite relevant now what with populist right wing personalities rising to the fore… although I’m doing all the books (mostly) in order the next natural step will be #KarlasChoice #NickHarkaway as it fits nicely in the timeline before ‘Tinker Tailor…’👌

New Review - today on the blog I am on the blog tour for #KarlasChoice a novel by Nick Harkaway where George Smiley returns into a fascinating Cold War thriller - I highly recommend it! https://www.runalongtheshelves.net/blog/2024/11/4/karlas-choice-by-nick-harkaway

💡 Just found out a fascinating twist: the writer of *Karla’s Choice* is actually John le Carré’s son, Nick Harkaway! 🤯✍️ That definitely adds a new dimension to the conversation. It’s not just any author picking up where le Carré left off, but his own son continuing the legacy! 👨‍👦

Does this change how we feel about legacy novels? 📚✨ Knowing that it’s a family member who likely had an intimate understanding of his father’s style, characters, and world, does it feel more authentic? Or is it still tricky when someone else, even family, takes over such an iconic universe? 🌍🔍

There’s something special about continuing a story when it’s in the hands of family, but does it make a big difference in the end? 🤔✨ Would you be more open to these kinds of continuations if they were handled by the creator’s family, or does it not really matter who writes it?
