On September 12, 2024, Japanese logistics firm #Kantsū Co., Ltd. was hit by a ransomware attack that encrypted its servers and shut down all operations, including its cloud WMS used by over 500 clients.

The attackers exploited an SSL-VPN vulnerability starting in July. Kantsū refused to pay the ransom, and the attack also wiped backups, forcing manual operations.

Recovery took two months and cost around ¥1.7 billion (approx. $11 million).
