Following reports by several Afghan media outlets in exile about the arrest of Mutasim Agha Jan, former finance minister of the Taliban under the group’s late leader, Mullah Omar, in Kandahar on 13 April 2026, pro-Taliban sources dismissed the claims as false. Neither side has provided evidence to support its assertions.

Work on the major 220 kilovolt power transmission project from the Asqalan substation to the Dasht-e Archi district in northeastern Kandahar province has begun. This project, which will be completed within 18 working months, will provide reliable energy to tens of thousands of consumers.
