The one-two punch of the stolen 2000 election and the Supreme Court soft coup d'etat followed by the 9/11 attacks must surely have killed a lot of folks' faith stone dead that day.
I was reflecting upon this while revisiting the series #KamenRider Wizard, which builds itself around a great tragedy that's affected a great many people: before the events of the show, there was a total solar eclipse that a supervillain had decided to use as an evil gateway, a big necromantic ritual that I think was intended to bring a dead child back to life, and the way that it was expressed in the show, all those people affected were driven into despair. They lost hope upon seeing the Sun blotted out of the sky at the height of the villain's evil ritual, and became vulnerable to psychic invasion.
How many journalists and politicians now active in U.S. affairs simply don't believe in democracy or freedom any more?
