Should you ever have the opportunity, spend a night at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The hike is strenuous, but beautiful, exhilarating and rewarding
Caveat: I hiked it in winter. I cannot imagine a summertime hike.

Kaibab Plateau

The route to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon leads across the Kaibab Plateau, which juts out like an island above the desert-like Colorado Plateau. Green and forested, it reaches an altitude of around 2,800 meters, making it almost as high as Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze.
