韓国が電子入国申告書で台湾を「CHINA (TAIWAN)」と表記したことに対する抗議として、台湾の出入国書類での韓国の表記を「南韓 (KOREA (SOUTH))」に変更すると警告したとのことです。韓国はすぐそばにある中国への配慮が過ぎるあまり、台湾に対してこのような扱いをしてしまったわけですが、韓国にとってもこの「南韓」呼ばわりは屈辱的なものなのでしょう。
台湾(中華民国)については日本も国家承認しておらず、正式な国交は結んでいませんが、経済や人的な関係は強く、私も昨年は3回も行ってしまったほどです。台湾からもたくさんの観光客が日本を訪れており、私は確認していませんが、もちろん日本の入国審査での表記は「台湾」となっているはずです。日本が特に苦労することなくうまく折り合いをつけているのに、韓国ではなぜ同じようにできなかったのでしょうか。それは中国との物理的・政治的・心理的な距離感の違いでしょうか。
しかし、「一つの中国」という主張はどうにかならないものなのでしょうか。かつては中国も台湾も両方が主張していたというのがまた厄介なところです。他人事として考えれば、今の実効支配している領域をそれぞれの領土とすればいいのではないかと思ってしまいますが、さすがにそれは乱暴でしょうか。しかし、これまで60年以上続いている状態なのですから、その状態で中国にも不利益があるわけではないでしょう。
まあ、人の国のことに安易に口を出すべきではないと思いますが、私は台湾が大好きなので、今後もずっと今のままで続いて欲しいと願っているわけです。
