Since switching from #GNOME to #KDE months ago, I've been trying to switch also from @EvolutionGnome to Kontact, for better/nicer desktop integration, but, unfortunately, I need Exchange (for a work account), and I had to give up. After much struggle, I managed to configure it, but the problems (contacts, automatic synch, Akonadi) are constant. Evolution can be slow at times, but it doesn't let you down. So back home. At least until KDE's new #email client, Merkuro Mail, becomes usable.

#Kmail

Does anyone know why KDE Linux does not offer KMail as an installable software in their software center? Is it perhaps not offered as a flatpack app but via some other package manager?

#KDE #KMail #KDELinux

Retrying KMail after a lot of time (only some months):

I don't know if this has anything with the fact that this time I preemptively switched Akonadi's DB from MariaDB to SQLite because the last time I tried literally nothing worked explicitly because of an obscure MariaDB shenanigan that I wasn't able to work around at all…

But this time everything worked first try? It's usable? It's actually nice to use? KMail is doing a good job, Merkuro calendar is also doing a good job, that's good?

It's literally the very first time I'm having a good experience with anything that interacts with Akonadi even with a stick in 18 years of Linux. That's cool!

#KMail #Akonadi #KDE

I recently reinstalled #KDE #Plasma on my home desktop, but I've still got #xfce on my laptop. But I'm getting tempted to switch it to Plasma as well. I had it on there before, so I know it runs well.

I already use a mix of GTK and QT applications and lean more towards the QT programs. Hard to leave #Evolution mail for #KMail, but I can always just eat the space for the GTK dependencies.

Still messing around with email clients (still worried @thunderbird will get infected by @mozilla's AI stupidity) and Kmail's got a serious deficiency.

By default it won't load remote content in email; that's good! When you turn it on for a message, it turns on for everything in the message; that's bad!

Ideally you'd get to choose what, so you can leave out all that tracking crap that infects everything.

Maybe there's a plugin or something…

#kmail #adtech #adblock

I <3 FOSS software. These are my daily drivers:

My PCs: #Arch, #linux, #kdelinux, #kde #plasma, #kmail, #librewolf, #darktable, #gwenview, #dolphin, #konsole, #okular, #kate, #kdeconnect ... And LOTS of stuff under the hood, holding all that togeather!

My (fair-)phone: #e_os, lots and lots of #fossify lots of #Nextcloud #fdroid. And a phone running #postmarketos and #plasmamobile.

Maps and navigation: #openstreetmap, #comaps

Selfhosted: #yunohost with a few apps,, #nextcloud

SoMe: #fediverse, #mastodon, #pixelfed, #friendica

Thank you all you insanely nice and competent people making all that available for us all!

We all knew it was inevitable, but I'm still sad to read that @thunderbird is adding AI to their email client.

I've been having issues with thunderbird lately, where it would time out sending mail even though evolution and kmail work fine. I was going to engage with their bug tracker to see if it could be resolved, but now I'm not going to bother. I'm also stopping my donations to the project.

They claim it will be 'opt in', but we all know what that means: constant banners and nagging popups begging you to please try their phenomenal AI features. No thanks, I'm getting out.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

I've been test-driving #Evolution and #KMail. Out of the two, Evolution speaks the most to me, so I think that's going to be my email client starting today.

Too bad neither Evolution nor KMail support usenet. I'll have to look for something else for that.

How do people feel about #Betterbird?

Also, what about the classics #KMail and Evolution? Anybody using those these days? Does either of them work with Gmail?

Either I am going crazy, or akonadi_imap_resource on Debian 13 requires NetworkManager to be running, and if it is not running it crashes with "invalid nullptr parameter".

Because you know, that kind of hard dependency would make perfect sense, right?
