After fixing up the bike trailer I was able to retrofit the parts so I can attach the kayak again. I'm still not super happy with the long pole. I'd like to think of a better way but this works for now.

The breeze near the river is strong. The wind on the tip of the pier is fierce!
Never saw a police boat pull over another boat before, sirens & lights & all. The boat slowed & stopped, and the police boat stopped right next to it, but no words were exchanged that I could hear. The boat slowly turned & pulled ahead, and the police boat stayed parallel but let them go.
