Secondo la polizia, Justin ha sparato a Cerina "diverse volte" prima di spostarsi in un'altra parte della casa per togliersi la vita. L'episodio è avvenuto intorno alla mezzanotte di mercoledì.
Il benessere dei minori e il passato della coppia
"La nostra principale preoccupazione in questo momento è il benessere dei figli", ha detto Davis. "Stanno collaborando con noi e certamente il figlio è stato colui che ha chiamato il 911 durante una situazione molto caotica. Posso solo immaginare".
Davis ha anche citato un episodio del gennaio 2026 in cui la polizia era stata chiamata alla casa dei Fairfax, precisando che la situazione era stata risolta senza accuse formali. "Nessun fascicolo o accuse, ma è stato redatto un rapporto di polizia", ha detto il capo della polizia riguardo all'episodio.
Justin, che in passato era stato accusato di aggressione sessuale, ha ricoperto il ruolo di vicegovernatore della Virginia dal 2018 al 2022 e successivamente ha continuato a lavorare come avvocato. La moglie era dentista.

Justin and his estranged wife, Cerina Fairfax, were found dead at their home. Police chief Kevin Davis revealed details of an incident with unexpected developments. Davis explained that the former lieutenant governor shot and killed his wife before turning the weapon on himself.

The couple’s teenage children, a boy and a girl, were both at the house at the time of the incident. It was the son who called 911 and alerted authorities. “We are all shocked, we are devastated,” Davis told reporters, adding that the couple was in the middle of a divorce proceeding.

Investigations into the motive and background
“We know that Mr. Fairfax had recently been served with some documentation indicating when he was due in court for the divorce proceedings,” Davis explained. “This is something we are examining as a possible factor that may have led to what happened last night, culminating in the murder of a mother and wife and the suicide.”

According to police, Justin shot Cerina “multiple times” before moving to another part of the house to take his own life. The incident occurred around midnight on Wednesday.

The well-being of minors and the couple’s past
“Our primary concern at this time is the well-being of the children,” Davis said. “They are cooperating with us, and certainly the son was the one who called 911 during a very chaotic situation. I can only imagine.”

Davis also cited an incident in January 2026 in which police were called to the Fairfax home, stating that the situation was resolved without formal charges. “No file or charges, but a police report was drafted,” the police chief said regarding the incident.

Justin, who had previously been accused of sexual assault, served as lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2018 to 2022 and subsequently continued to work as an attorney. His wife was a dentist.
