Xie Lian shivers as he steps out from behind the screen, trying not to tangle any of the body jewelry adorning him. He has the instinct to try to cover himself with his hands, but he refuses to show vulnerability in this context. This is just another thing he has to endure.

A servant leads him to the Great Martial Hall, then pauses outside the palace entrance. Xie Lian understands that he is supposed to walk in alone. For a moment, he doesn't think he can. Not in this outfit.

He lets his mind drift, disconnecting from his body. The world grows dull and meaningless.

He steps in.

Transfemale Xie Lian who works in an office for a big for-profit company with international reach.

She had a good resume but didn’t imagine it was going to be good enough to end up in the position she got.

Her new boss, Jun Wu, takes an interest in her. He tries to give her guidance and teach her how things are done around the company, some being a bit questionable, but they are not breaking any laws so, who is she to say anything.

Jun Wu also peer pressures her into joining after work parties at bars, where he is always buying her drinks and ending up driving her home after she gots a bit too drunk.

Then, he starts giving her tougher tasks and using his authority to make her stay extra overtime hours, till very late in the night.

She is not eating well because she lives in a small apartment alone, she no longer has time to spend with friends and now she is doing errands for his boss that are not always work related.

During one of the nights she has to stay late, Jun Wu also had stay in his office till late. He comes out to check on her periodically until she is about to leave but he calls her into his office for a quick chat.

He puts his hand on the small of her back and guides her to sit in his office couch instead of the chair and proceeds to sit next to her, close enough that their knees are touching, and maybe he is leaning close a bit too much.

As they talk he makes mention of how young she looks and how pretty she dresses and that she should smile more. Also, he has a beach house he uses on vacations and invites her to join him on a trip. She politely rejects him but he is persistent and now his hand is on her knee and his face practically next to hers.

She is so uncomfortable she makes a move to get away but he grabs her by the wrist and forces a kiss on her.

She is being a little too resistant so he lets her go but not without telling her there will be other chats like this in the future and that is better for her that she keeps it quiet or else.

This is not actually a wholesome thought. I thought of it because I wanted to think about toxic yuri Bailian (same amount of shippiness as canon). Jun Wu is not *that* interested in the prince born under her star until she finds out that, like her, the prince*ss* has decided she’s a girl. Then she gets obsessed.

I’m not sure what would change other than that. Probably Ling Wen doesn’t have such a hard time, for one thing, since the Heavenly Emperor is a female martial god.

Xie Lian rests his cheek against Jun Wu’s knee. He closes his eyes, trying to empty his mind.

His eyes fly open only a few seconds later. He’s too vulnerable in these clothes. He needs to be ready for anything that might come his way.

"I wonder what /his/ problem is, Xianle," Jun Wu sighs, stroking Xie Lian’s hair. "Being Heavenly Emperor is so tedious. Everyone wants a piece of my time."

/Maybe you should abdicate, then,/ Xie Lian thinks but doesn’t say. He’s learned better by this point.

The god at the entrance to the Palace of Divine Might enters. Xie Lian fixes his gaze at the man’s feet. He can see any movements he might make, but he can’t see the expression that the man might have when looking at him - or whether he even does glance at Xie Lian. Xie Lian can’t bear to see his face.

The god moves forward. Above Xie Lian, a conversation begins. Xie Lian fidgets with the lace on his legs, stares at a pair of feet, and dissociates.

It’s better that way.

Jun Wu's fingers disappear from Xie Lian's body. "Good," she says, sounding pleased. "You are still chaste. I will let everyone know."

Xie Lian straightens up, feeling humiliated. Why exactly does the Heavenly Empress have to /announce/ these things? Shouldn't it be enough to just check, and keep it private? She pulls her pants back up and straightens her robes.

"Come with me," Jun Wu says. Xie Lian reluctantly follows her to the Great Martial Hall.

Xie Lian turns his head away and brings his wrist up to bite at it. Tears form in the corners of his eyes. Other than that, he stubbornly doesn’t react.

"It’s for your own good, Xianle," Jun Wu tells him, putting on an air of concern. "Are you alright? Do you need a break?"

"No," Xie Lian grits out. "Keep going."
