A Single Bite of Chicken Solved This Massacre

A Single Bite of Chicken Solved This Massacre

Oh wow! Based on a lead from a group chat about a documentary on Juan Luna’s painting Hymen, oh Hyménée!¹ at the Ayala Museum, I saw that a photo of a National Historical Institute historical marker installed in 1987 in #Paris, #France 🇫🇷 had been uploaded to #WikimediaCommons in 2012! This is exciting because this marker is virtually unknown and is not in any lists of known markers that I know of and is not even in the NHCP’s registry.

This Vogue Philippines article about the Filipino painter Juan Luna is impressive, painting a conflicting picture of the hero/genius vs. monster conundrum that besets many people.

A documentary film by Martin Arnaldo traces the recovery of the long-lost Juan Luna painting Hymen, oh Hyménée!, while at the same time captures the dilemma of the late 19th century Filipino diaspora for Juan Luna. The film will also be aired on CNN Philippines on July 8.
Oooh. I didn't know that the #Philippines had a century-old art mystery! @pinoy
"The painting, feared to have been destroyed during the revolution, is hailed by many art collectors as the 'holy grail of Philippine art' – due to both Luna’s brilliance and the air of mystery surrounding the piece. It belonged to his personal collection; he never made it with the intention of submitting it in a competition or as a commissioned work. " #PinoyArtists #Philippines #PinoyArt #MastodonArt
