Bathroom remodel and pack rat eviction day.

There's been a pack rat under the bathtub and in the wall between the bathroom and my bedroom for years. It got in through the bathtub drain penetration that was never sealed up when they remodeled the place in the '90s.

It finally got too smelly to the point where even though this is not how I want to spend my time, energy and money at the moment, I couldn't ignore it anymore.

First picture is my contractor friend prying the old tub up. Second picture shows the mass of pack rat poop, cactus thorns and nest material that had accumulated under there. The red things are from a bush I have outside called Sophora davidii. It has gorgeous cobalt flowers and beige pods full of bright red seeds. They are not edible, but I think the pack rat just thinks they're pretty.

argh the dishwasher's leaking. it appears to be the main input solenoid. maybe a replacement solenoid could be had but that assumes my guess is even right. #joysOfHomeOwnership
Well today is going to suck. Just got home at the end of a 12 hour shift to find our dog Griffin in the carport. On the wrong side of the fence. Looks like I'm calling in and mending a fence today. #DogLife #JoysOfHomeOwnership #HomeOwner #DIY #CoffeeIsLife

Spent almost 2 hours picking up 15 gallons of ginkgo berries out of my driveway, front yard, and front porch… and I still didn’t get all of the ones currently down. If you’re unfamiliar, the crushed berries smell like a mix of vomit and dog 💩.

I picked up about 10 gallons a week ago.

We weren't going to do much in the bathroom but one thing led to another ...

While I enjoy having half an acre and not living in a development with all the houses crunched together...mowing the lawn weekly can get annoying. #JoysOfHomeOwnership

Lateral line replacement is finally done.
We had water and sewage back yesterday- trenchless replacement via pipe bursting.
But they had to come back this morning to refill the 2 pits that had to be dug to run the new line in and install a new clean-out at the property line (something we did not have before, because 1950's code didn't require it, while 2023 code does...).
We will have to have one section of sidewalk replaced (had to be busted out for the second pit dig), and we'll have to seed the lawn where the pits were dug- but no serious damage to the yard.

Just serious damage to our bank accounts. Homeowners insurance does not cover this work at all.
