Oh, we need the hashtag for this, so everybody can post about our Journeys of Discovery for each other! My current one is battling to learn my way around a whole new computer system. But if I rename this process, from "exhausting battle" to "Journey of Discovery", the whole mood changes.

Celebrating My Egg Cracking Anniversary!

What an experience! I remember that day a year ago very well. I was on vacation visiting my family in Mexico. We had just come back from the beach the day before. The next day, we were going to Mexico City to catch a plane home. I decided to walk around my family's town and relax before our trip. I spent the day downtown, buying gifts for friends and enjoying every moment.

When I got back to my parents' house, I was very tired. I continued binge watching the anime "Onimai," and by bedtime, I was at the last episode of the first season. In "Onimai," the main character changes from a boy to a girl using an experimental drug. In the last episode, as the drug's effects start to fade, the character has to choose whether to go back to being a boy or take more of the drug, knowing it would last longer and be harder to reverse. Watching this, I quietly said, "I wish I had that drug..." and then my life changed forever!

I don't regret finding this out. The journey hasn't been easy or cheap. However, after a year, I still have a lot to explore, both inside myself and in the world. I've lost some relationships, yet the ones that remain are stronger, especially with my wife and kid. I have a new life ahead, which is both scary and exciting.

Road trips are more than just a means of transportation. They are adventures, self-discovery, and life-lesson travels. Whether you are traveling with friends and family or embarking on a solo adventure, road trips have a unique way of teaching us valuable insights about ourselves and the world around us. We will explore some profound lessons I have learned from road trips.

  • Embracing the Unknown: One of the lessons road trips have taught me is the art of embracing the unknown. When you hit the open road, you can’t predict every twist and turn, and that’s part of the beauty. It has taught me to be flexible, adapt to unexpected situations, and spontaneity.

    2. Appreciating the Journey: In our fast-paced lives, we often focus on reaching our destination without focusing on the journey. Road trips have taught me the importance of slowing down and savoring the moments on the way. From breathtaking landscapes to charming roadside diners, there’s so much to enjoy if we take the time to notice.

    3. Problem-Solving Skills: No road trip is without challenges, from flat tires to getting lost in unfamiliar territory. These experiences have honed my problem-solving skills and taught me to remain calm under pressure. It can be amazing how you can become resourceful miles away from the nearest mechanic.

    4. Building Stronger Relationships: Spending hours in a car with friends or family can make or break a relationship. Road trips have taught me the importance of communication, compromise, and patience. They provide the perfect setting to bond, share stories, and create lasting memories.

    5. Disconnecting to Reconnect: In our hyper-connected world, becoming overwhelmed is easy. Road trips offer a chance to unplug and reconnect with the present moment. I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of silence, the joy of conversation without distractions, and the peace that comes from being in the moment.

     6. Finding Beauty in the Simple: On the road, you’ll encounter small towns, hidden gems, and overlooked wonders. Beauty can be found in the most unexpected locations, sometimes on the roadside sunset or a mom-and-pop diner, in addition to what my road journeys have shown me.

    7. Discovering Independence: For those who venture out on solo road trips, the experience can be liberating. It’s a chance to get your independence, make decisions solely for yourself, and gain confidence in your abilities to navigate the world.

    • Road trips are not just about reaching a destination but also about the trip. The valuable lessons it imparts. In addition to being able to reshape us and provide insights that stay with us after the event. Road trips with the fun that comes with it are appreciated. So, the next time you hit the road, remember that it is not about where you are going but about experiences learned on the road.
