What won't you miss about 2025? That's today's #journalprompt

A little background: my employer had stuff to give away, but not enough to give everyone a present, so we had to put our hands into a box and pull out a note that read either "No" or "Yes." If it said Yes, you could go pick a present from a pile they'd set up.

I picked this note and added "more 2025."

Happy new year, everyone. We've run out of 2025. How does it feel? #writingcommunity #journalprompts #happynewyear2026

It's time to end one year and begin another.

Sometimes it's sad to say goodbye to people, circumstances, and places as time moves on, and we're especially aware of that when one year turns into the next. Other times, we look forward to new connections and changes in our lives. Either way, a new year can be a new beginning.

This week, think or write about what a new year could bring you, and what you can do to write a new story in 2026.

Today's #journalprompt is to cook something or to describe some food that appears in whatever you're writing... and because the topic of "getting more turmeric in your diet because your joints hurt" came up at a book event today, I'm sharing this recipe.
It'll be cold tonight for much of North America, it's time to cook and eat something that'll keep you warm!
Buon appetito!
(And if you need a convenient #recipejournal, check out the link in my profile!)

Today's #journalprompt is to take advantage of some down-time when you're able. For those in the path of this winter storm, the best advice anyone can give you is to stay home and stay safe right now.
And if you can, devote some time to writing or other creative work.
This week, or whenever the next storm hits, think or write about the things you've been meaning to work on. Then, work on them! Those songs and stories aren't going to write themselves!

Today's #journalprompt is about change.
Sometimes it's beautiful. Sometimes it's awkward. But no matter who you are, change is a constant part of life.

How do you handle change? How do you present a storyline that allows a character to incorporate change into his/her/their life/ character arc?

This week, think or #write about changes that have had a major effect.

Today's #journalprompt is about patriotism. How do you define it?

I made a quick video of yesterday's event on Word.Nerd.Gabi.Lorino on YouTube. Just here in our little towns south of Charlotte, there are plenty of people motivated to come out and talk about what's important to them.

Thanks for sharing all of your pictures and videos too! #nokings #patriotism #journalprompts

For this week's #journalprompt make a list of what you can do to resist the things you dislike, and then do those things.
I made this sign years ago when things were comparatively better, and it's an oldie but a goodie. On the opposite side, I have "Believe," because it's not enough to resist... you also have to imagine and believe in a better future.

This summer I'm researching old questions. Starting with learning more about 2 great-grandfathers, so I can learn more about my Italian family tree.

I also reconnected with old classmates to get a 40-year-old question answered about a prank gone wrong in junior high.

What are you curious about? What could you ask someone about or research among some archives to learn more about? This week, think or write about a questions you'd like to find the answer to.

Who remembers "free skate" or "all skate" at the roller rink?

Everyone was invited to skate. Unlike the couples skate, for example.

That phrase popped into my head today. Not sure where it came from, but it's a good way to sum up how me and my generation understood inclusivity at an early age. Everyone skates. All are welcome.

This week, think or write about experiences that are open to everyone, or nearly everyone.

Have a great week!
