Esagero? No: voi avete presente chi è Trump?

Trump wants the head of Pope Leo, the White House threatens a “new Avignon” against the pontiff “enemy.”

In the world there are now two Westerns. Incompatible with each other. One of Christian culture, which aspires to a peaceful and solidarity-based world, that considers equality among men a fundamental value, because it is the equality among men the soul and the basis of the Gospel. And this world is guided by the Pope. Especially since 13 years ago Bergoglio was elected, but even now with Pope Leo, who on the themes of peace and solidarity deviates not by an inch from Bergoglio's ideas. In fact, at times he even proclaims them with less diplomatic attention.

Then there's the world of Trump. Which is the extreme manifestation of hyper-capitalistic and warlike Western. Dominated by profit, strength, and the arms industry. It’s a world before Trump, but which had hitherto always sought compromises and attenuations of its detachment from Christian culture. Alternating wisdom and hypocrisy. Trump, escalating the tone, has made these two Westerns completely incompatible. And today he has gone even further. His vice president J.D. Vance, meeting the head of the American Catholic Church, threatened a real intervention by American power against Pope Leo. He evoked “Avignon.”

What is Avignon? The French city in which the kings of France deported the popes in 1300, because they wanted to condition the magisterium and policies. They made them prisoners. It is the darkest period of the Catholic Church, lasted 70 years. What did Vance mean when he used the word “Avignon”? Probably a solution to Maduro.

Exaggeration? No: do you know who Trump is? It is said that Joseph Stalin, when his advisors told him that it was not the case to go against the Pope (I believe it was Pius XII), asked: “How many divisions does the Pope have?” Trump and his vice must be the type to whom, at the end of the day, Stalin doesn't really dislike.
