#GoodNightAndGoodLuck is another fine movie based on a true story. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1954, the #CBS television show #SeeItNow, hosted by #EdwardRMurrow, presented its special report on #JosephMcCarthy, using the Senator's own words to condemn him as a fraud and a demagogue.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1950, alcoholic Senator #JosephMcCarthy found a reëlection trick in a bald-faced that he had a list of 205 "known communists" working in the #StateDepartment, setting off the #SecondRedScare. The number kept changing and he never turned over a single name.

This excerpt from a 1954 #EdwardRMurrow broadcast criticizing #JosephMcCarthy's anti-communist witch-hunt is still quite relevant. The US has consistently failed to fulfil its promise, choosing again and again to push bigotry, fear, and state violence.
