@NicoleCRust glad I am following you! I am a biologist by training interested in evolutionary thinking.
It would perhaps be a good direction to make (computational) simulation models of brains going from a simple complex system (aka fruitfly brain) and then add layers of complexity to it as evolution has done.
Since very complex systems evolve from simpler complex systems.
Or perhaps that is already done somewhere?
I like the work of #JosephLedoux (emotional brain) in that respect
