Most of the time I take #DavidBrooks as an old school conservative who is probably genuinely well meaning but has a fundamentally different (& flawed) opinion about how the world works and should work. This is ridiculous. His "the voters should vote" uber alles malarkey ignores the roles of the people putting on the elections to faithfully execute their duties in that regard. One of those duties is to see if the person being proposed for the ballot violated the 14th Amendment. There is no requirement for a criminal conviction in the Amendment.
Brooks is literally proposing that anyone popular with 75,000,000 Americans be put on the ballot regardless of literally any statutory, constitutional, or bureaucratic restriction. If 75,000,000 American voters want a 15-year-old Korean citizen who stormed the US Capitol, then so be it, according to Brooks. Damn the law, right? What a maroon.
