The Southern #Appalachian Mountains and wider #Piedmont region are an elevated formation that effectively “interrupts” weather formations coming off the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts.

“more salient than the remoteness of the postwar West was its dryness. With the exception of a strip along the Pacific, where ocean breezes moderated the regional drought, and the crests of the highest interior ranges, which caught what little moisture escaped the Cascades and Sierra Nevada, the new West was a desert.”

The Visionary John Wesley Powell Had a Plan for Developing the West, But Nobody Listened

Powell’s foresight might have prevented the 1930s dust bowl and perhaps, today’s water scarcities

Water has been an issue since #JohnWesleyPowell and then made worse by the events outlined in #CadillacDesert.

Without investment in #infrastructure, all that precipitation just drains into the ocean.

Also, the municipal budget for road repair increases as the rain washes away the pothole fixes, leaving drivers practicing defensive driving with the road itself.

Mostly, it just reduces the quality of life making people question the value of the #SunshineTax.

#JohnWesleyPowell would be rolling over in his grave.
