Lt Reiseführer war es 1714 der Uhrmacher #johnharrison, der als wissenschaftlicher Laie das Konzept des Null-Meridian entwickelte - und noch so schön klingende Dinge wie die Grashopper-Hemmung erfand. Damals gingen Impulse für den technologischen Fortschritt vom Handwerk aus - noch nicht von privaten oder universitären Forschungseinrichtungen.
