The man who Churchill HATED most…

#JohnCurtin was a key figure in Australian political history, serving as the 14th Prime Minister from 1941 until his death in 1945.

Curtin joined the Australian Labor Party in 1911, advocating for workers' rights and social justice. His legacy was cemented during World War II when, as Prime Minister, he shifted Australia's military focus from Europe to the Pacific, aligning with the United States. This decision was crucial for the Allied victory in the Pacific.

Curtin's leadership was marked by his dedication to the Australian people, supporting servicemen and women, boosting wartime industries, and maintaining national unity. He also pushed for post-war social reforms, such as unemployment benefits and the Department of Post-War Reconstruction.

Curtin passed away on July 5, 1945, before the war's end, but his impact on Australian politics endures. He is remembered for his integrity and the foundations he laid for a more equitable and prosperous Australia.

The first time I ate at the Niagara Cafe in Gundagai, NSW, I was a child and it was run by the original owners, two brothers from Greece. It had one wall covered in photos of notable patrons. I've never forgotten it.

It's been restored now, and the photo collage has disappeared. There are still a couple of pictures left.
