Currently listening to the very interesting "Henry House" from Nate Wooley.

Henry House of course is a reference to John Berryman, and Wooley uses texts from Berryman, Joseph Mitchell, Wendell Berry, and a Kafka biography to tell a (fairly abstract) story.

The music is very different from the bigger, somewhat noisier stuff of his Seven Storey Mountain -- and there's some field recordings, including crickets, against long layered clusters of droning horns. That's my kind of party.

The Bandcamp notes are very much worth a read, with details on the compositional process behind the texts and some aspects of the music, too.

Been a while for this one.

I never really got too into The Hold Steady, but THIS album is a favorite.

It’s kind of a punk rock Born To Run, with great lyrical references to the Beat poets, #johnberryman & various #minnesota touchstones.

Just great songs, man.
I think it’s time for me to revisit some of the other albums.
