Jim BodieA little later than planned, but today is finish decorating and get bins put back in the basement day. I did not quite finish last weekend and worked a lot of extra hours this week so today is the day to get it done. Bob River's twisted tunes is the current Spotify music.
It's another Sunday with no place to go so I'm in my Doctor Who lounge pants, one of my favorite Mets shirts and this afternoon I will be reading and putting a shit load of ornaments on the big tree. The music of choose is the Heavy Metal Christmas Playlist on Spotify. Current selection, Rob Halford singing "Oh Holy Night". Xmas music is better with a heavy metal filter.
2023 is proving to be an expensive year and in particular, this month. I won't tell you how much I spent on car work, rental car and now a new water heater, but I am quite sure it will exceed October's 2 paychecks, the gross amount and not net! All had to be done though.
I am accomplished! Today's planned around the house project was to replace the 3 sets of blinds in the bedroom.
I bought either the same brand I got the last time I replaced the blinds many years ago, or a compatible enough brand. I did not need to replace any brackets so it was a matter of take down the old blinds and put up the new blinds and clean up.
That was the only planned project for today. The rest of the day is mine to do what I want.
I mentioned cleaning my desk, but a picture is worth a 1000 words as they say, so here is a picture of my desk. It's a bit less disorganized than it was yesterday. I to want to find a home for the stuff on top of the hutch and reduce piles of paper even further. I'm actually pretty good at organizing stuff. If I wasn't, this would look 10 times worse.
I ran out of hooks, the trees are quite full of ornaments, that tells me I'm done decorating. We have 4 decorated trees, a 8 or 9 foot tree, two 3 foot trees, and a rather small one. I took over the small one for the several sets of real small ornaments. After dinner, I need to fix a blown bulb in a light strand and start wrapping Kat's gifts. If I do that tonight, I'll have zero obligations tomorrow. Everything will be done.
Both upstairs rooms (master bedroom and office) in my townhouse have 2 closets. One closet is full. The other closet is my tool closet and the shelves have unread books and bunch of magazines including all of the 1970s of Mad Magazine. It is a royal mess right now and full. That is usually where I store Kat's Xmas gifts. I have no place for her gifts at the moment. Good thing I haven't bought much yet. Speaking of which, I really should do that before bed!
Step 1,fix string of lights. Done. Half of the lights were out. Turns out, the first and 2bd to last bulbs on that half were bad. It's all lit up now.
Step 2,decorate the small tree with lights and firetruck, military, Star Wars and annual Hallmark snowmen ornaments about to begin.
Step 3, put crap load of ornaments on the main tree will start later this afternoon.
My motivation is lacking, but will look good when done.
While organizing my many hundreds of digital photos, I found a pair of photos (left and right sides) of my tool (and unread books) closet from 2011. It was so freaking neat then. Now it is messy, cluttered, and even more full of unread books. I just took a pair of pics of the cluttered mess. The 2011 pics are going to serve as a goal of what I want that closet to look like again. It is also amazing how much stuff has not changed in 11 years.
If I was as motivated and as efficient in getting stuff done all 9 days of my vacation/holiday as I was this afternoon and late evening, I probably would have run out of stuff to do by now.
Most of what I did today was some form or another of organization both electronic and physical files. I can't say anyone but me would notice the improvement, but there is some improvement in organization. The home office and computers are slightly less chaotic.
