Time to rethink what the mineralogy was saying about the #JezeroMarginUnit ? Radar sounding by RIMFAX finds deep traces of earlier deltas and rejects the igneous intrusive hypothesis. The plot thickens...

Almost a "companion" paper, putting the Margin Unit in context with Séitah, thanks to all the rover's observations (mostly MCZ spectra) & comparing them with orbital ones.

@65dBnoise let the record show 😉 this stuff is interpreted as xenoliths in Williford et al: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adu8264

Fig S4, mentioned 1+2x times in the paper:

"N Margin outcrops close to this contact are similar to exposures S of the channel, but one contains diverse, cm-scale features (fig. S4) that were not observed elsewhere; these could represent altered xenoliths."

[EDIT]: removed the 2nd mention which came from the rejected pyroclastic formation hypohesis.

Hard to catch up with all the science when papers for 2 years of #PerseveranceRover campaigns (upper delta, margin unit and #NeretvaVallis / #JezeroBrightAngel) all get released within a few weeks 🤦‍♂️

There's also a reference to a new paper on the margin unit, with an excellent sketch of its proposed formation and alteration.
