Join the Workers Circle and our friends at Congress for Jewish Culture, YIVO, the Jewish Labor Committee, and Friends of the Bund in New York City on Friday, April 18, at 1:00 PM ET for a commemoration of the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

Gather with us at the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Memorial Plaza in Riverside Park to remember the brave and spirited fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

We will hear from academics, artists, and activists as we recount the history of this watershed moment and ground today's activism in the work of our movement ancestors.

for vancouver ppl, I'm giving an informal talk at the Peretz Centre on May 16th after their monthly Fraytik tsu Nakht potluck social. it's based on my YIVO research over the last few months, but with a different angle than my YIVO talk which will focus on the ties of musicians to these organizations. this talk will be more about the organizations themselves and what trajectory they took during the 20th century.

My talk for YIVO has been posted, it'll be on zoom on May 8th 1pm EST. It'll be based on the results of my research here in recent months looking for traces of immigrant Jewish and Klezmer musicians in YIVO's landsmanshaft and mutual aid society collections.

A cool set of ribbons on their own in YIVO's huge RG 123 collection of assorted landsmanshaft and mutual aid society materials.

minimal results on google but it seems to be an old Philadelphia mutual aid society: The First Roumanian Ladies Association Agudath Achiois, which was affiliated with the Federation of Roumanian Jews of Philadelphia.

undated, maybe 1910s-20s?

Photo of Jewish musicians from Klyetsk, 1928, not far from Baranavichy. At that time in Poland, today in Belarus. From the YIVO collection, from the 1946 "Journal dedicated our Birthplace Kletzk" by United Kletzker Relief. The line underneath is a bit of a play on a Molly Picon song. "Di 'Kapelie' - Efrim mitn fidl un Asher mitn bas - 1928."
