"[T]here are plenty of thrilling new #books coming out this year that can help us escape reality when we need to and also engage with our world on a deeper level. This includes a bevy of #titles on #Jewish subjects and/or by Jewish #authors.

We’ve got a debut romance #novel (with plenty of anxiety) from Brooke Averick; #histories of Jewish toymakers and the Jewish #LaborBund, respectively; #novels tackling everything from a 2010s #queer coming-of-age to a deranged manifesto of someone’s mother to Jewish #art stolen by the #Nazis; memoirs from the likes of #LenaDunham and #CazzieDavid, and so much more.

Read on for the 27 #Jewishbooks we’re looking forward to in 2026."

27 Jewish Books We’re Looking Forward to in 2026

It’s only been 2026 for a week, and it’s already shaping up to be a whirlwind. Este Haim got married, Zohran Mamdani became mayor of New York City, Timothée Chalamet began his quest for an Oscar and the United States captured Venezuela’s de facto leader, just to name a few things that have already happened.Thankfully, […]

Hey Alma

Just received advance copies of "When Einstein Met Kafka: Jewish Contributions to the Modern World," a wonderful book by the Spanish writer Diego Moldes, which I translated and adapted into English.

It comes out on September 15 from Mandel Vilar Press. "When Einstein Met Kafka" is like those "great Jews in history" books that lots of us had when we were kids, except it's written for grown-ups and is about 600 pages long, covering science and inventions, the arts, human rights, politics, sports, business, entertainment, and countless other fields.

Here's a sort of unboxing video (though I'd already opened the box by then). 😀

"When Einstein Met Kafka": A book I translated comes out on Sept. 15!

I've been using the same, small hardcover edition of Siddur Sim Shalom for decades. The pages are soft from turning. I love how there's a wine stain in one place, or handwritten notes on cantillation in another, and how the book opens naturally to the first pages of minḥa or ma'ariv.

But over the years some pages have gotten a bit loose, and I'm starting to fear the binding will self-destruct. So I just got myself the paperback version of the same #siddur, and I'm all excited about that because I am a giant nerd. 🤓

Unfortunately, the print in the paperback version seems a bit smaller to me, at a time in my life when what I kinda need the opposite. The next one I buy will probably be one of those editions that has super-large type and I'll need a stand to hold it.

I just sent the publisher my final edits for my English translation of Diego Moldes's wonderful 700-page nonfiction book "When Einstein Met Kafka: Jewish Contributions to the Modern World," which Mandel Vilar Press will publish this year. That ends a translation and adaptation process that began in 2021!

A Jewish nonfiction book I translated and edited is being published this September by Mandel Vilar Press:

"When Einstein Met Kafka: Jewish Contributions to the Modern World" by Diego Moldes. The author is a cultural historian in Spain who wrote the book as a pushback against the horrific rise in anti-Jewish prejudice in Europe throughout the 2010s.

I had a lunch meeting at the Peretz Centre here in Vancouver today with some library folks who are Peretz members as well as staff there, brainstorming about future renewal/new directions for their 1-room library, which has a pretty respectable Yiddish-language collection. Here's hoping to see some positive changes and new users
