Reading a new horror book set in "small town Alaska" and knowing exactly which small town the author is riffing off of makes it really weird to read. Like "yep, you're talking about Whittier and you're talking about Begich Towers and you're talking about the AKRR tunnel and I know which hiking trail you're referring to..."
