Listened to a very interesting #CanPol podcast episode today, Beyond a Ballot's interview with #JenniByrne : https://open.spotify.com/episode/2zkPjjEYfJOxKhIhuxSMjo?si=jWULaZMHQ4CEVM5KYYYRjw

(Ms. Byrne, for those unaware, was campaign manager for the #CPC in #elxn45.)

The interview was friendly, but asked some hard questions, e.g., how did the Conservatives come second after being in supermajority territory? Was it a mistake not to pivot to an anti-Trump message? Should #PierrePoilievre stay on as leader? Why did he drop the glasses?

Objectively, that was a very good campaign for the #Conservatives: highest vote percentage since 1988 (41.4% now; 43.0% then), seats across the country, a broad coalition of voters, more support from under-30s than normal. The principal reason the #CPC didn't win a plurality was because of the collapse of the NDP, but there's not so much Conservatives can do about that.

There were things that could have been done better, but Conservatives should thank #JenniByrne and the team.

"Turnout" is the answer: maybe people who wouldn’t normally vote will come out in large enough numbers to swing the election to the Conservatives. Seems like grasping at straws to me, but it *is* possible.

Let me tell you, if the #CPC win despite being 5% behind the Liberals, people will say #JenniByrne is a genius. And they'll be right.

If voter turnout ticks up only a bit from its historic lows, it upends projections of how this election will go.

This article makes #JenniByrne sound awesome. Not flawless, not necessarily the woman for the hour, but a really impressive political operator.

(She was right in 2015 too: the #CPC ought to have concentrated their fire on the Liberals, not the NDP.)
