Jedburgh Abbey is a stunning ruined medieval abbey located in the town of Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders. It is one of the four great Border Abbeys, along with Melrose, Dryburgh, and Kelso. Built in the Romanesque and Gothic styles, it reflects the rich religious and architectural history of Scotland.
It was founded around 1138 by David I of Scotland for the Augustinian order. The site had earlier religious significance, possibly dating back to the 9th century.
Jedburgh Abbey is not only a site of architectural beauty but also a place steeped in history. Its dramatic ruins are a reminder of Scotland’s turbulent past, and the abbey’s serene setting makes it a fantastic place to reflect on the legacy of the Borders region. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply a scenic spot to visit, Jedburgh Abbey is a must-see.
