Procesamiento de Jean Grave
El 25 de febrero de 1894, en la Audiencia del Sena de París (Francia), como consecuencia de las denominadas «Lois Scélérates» (Leyes Perversas), Jean Grave es procesado por haber escrito La société mourante et l'anarchie (La sociedad moribunda y la anarquía).
Este libro, editado en 1892 con prefacio de Octave Mirbeau, consiste en una recopilación de artículos publicados en los periódicos anarquistas Le Droit Social y L'Étendart Révolutionnaire, impresos en Lyon. Dichos artículos aparecieron de forma anónima o bajo el seudónimo de Jehan Le Vagre, escritos con la finalidad de divulgar las tesis anarcocomunistas de Kropotkin.
Sentencia y consecuencias
Finalmente, a pesar del testimonio en su favor de figuras como Élisée Reclus, Paul Adam, Bernard Lazare y el propio Octave Mirbeau, Jean Grave fue condenado a:
Dos años de prisión.
Mil francos de multa (el máximo aplicable).
Los cargos fueron «incitación a la indisciplina, al pillaje, al asesinato, al robo, al incendio, etc.». Además, se ordenó la destrucción del libro incriminado. Como resultado de este proceso, Jean Grave alcanzó una gran popularidad.
