Many jazz critics have dismissed the 1970s as a vast wasteland for jazz, but in fact, just the opposite was true. The 1970s were banner years for jazz -- not only because of the fearless explorations of fusion and soul-jazz innovators, but also because of all the interesting modal post-bop coming out. Recorded in 1975 and 1978, Vibrations, Themes and Serenades illustrates the richness of modal jazz and paints an impressive picture of that time. This was the second LP that Byron Morris recorded with Unity, and the band is quite cohesive on spiritually-minded pieces such as "Like a Galaxy of Stars," "Eyewitness News Bluze" and "ERAA," all of which feature the expressive vocalist Jay Clayton...

#JayClayton, a former corporate lawyer who served as the #SEC chair during the first #Trump admin, was nominated by the president to be the #USattorney for the #SDNY in January, but his confirmation was blocked by NY’s senior Democratic senator, #ChuckSchumer. Clayton was then appointed on an interim basis in April, & in August, the judges of Manhattan’s Federal District Court appointed him to the post, meaning he could serve for the rest of Trump’s term.

#JayClayton, who served as chair of the #SEC during the first #Trump admin, has deep-roots in #WallStreet & >2decades of experience at a prominent international law firm, although he never was a prosecutor before taking the position 4 months ago.

The approval came after several other US attorneys across the country who were appointed by the Trump admin were unable to gain the approval of #judges in their districts.

#Trump pick to be the top #federal prosecutor in #NYC will stay in the job, even though he hasn’t been confirmed by the US #Senate, after a group of #judges voted Monday to allow him to continue in the position.

The judges’ decision to approve #JayClayton as the #USattorney for #SDNY is a victory for the Trump admin, which has resorted to unorthodox maneuvers to keep some of Trump’s other nominees for US attys in place after they failed to advance in the Senate.

Jay Clayton to stay as top federal prosecutor in Manhattan

The judges of the Southern District of New York have approved Jay Clayton to remain as the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan. The approval was announced in a release Monday by District Executive Edward Friedland. It came after several other U.S. attorneys across the country who were appointed by the administration of President Donald Trump were unable to gain the approval of judges in their districts. The Manhattan prosecutor's office has undergone turmoil in recent months after several prosecutors resigned after refusing to carry out orders from the Justice Department.
