The Persian service for Trump’s overhauled Voice of America (VOA)
is censoring coverage of Iran’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi,
who played a central role in stirring up antigovernment proteststhat rocked the country earlier this month.

Three staff members at VOA told The Hill that the adviser overseeing VOA’s Persian-language service,
#Ali #Javanmardi, is excluding any video or audio of protesters chanting Pahlavi’s name,
silencing guests from discussing Pahlavi
and skewing Trump’s position toward the crown prince.

🔥“This is the kind of censorship that you would expect to see in authoritarian countries run by dictatorships,”
said one of the staffers who spoke to The Hill.

Javanmardi and U.S. Agency for Global Media head #Kari #Lake,
who oversees VOA Persian,
have issued public statements defending their decision to avoid coverage of Pahlavi,
arguing it’s not their role to promote certain Iranian opposition figures.
