From Leiden / The Hague student encampment:

'WE, THE STUDENTS AND STAFF OF LEIDEN UNIVERSITY....

... are reclaiming this campus to demand an end to our university's complicity in the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine and the genocide in Gaza.

Our Occupation is part of the recent global student intifada.

This escalation is a result of the last years of LU making no tangible efforts to end their complicity in the occupation of Palestine and all grave human rights violations that come along with it.

OUR DEMANDS

We will remain until Leiden University meets the following demands:

1. Boycott

Commit to a full academic boycott of Zionist and Israeli institutions that are complicit in human rights violations against the Palestinian people and the occupation of their land.

2. Divest

Cease all contracts with and divest from Israeli companies and international companies/ funds, that profit from genocide, apartheid, and exploitation of the Palestinian people and their land.'

Utrecht University’s board has promised to “reasses” its ties to the Zionist Entity. We recognise this message for what it is: a tactic to placate the masses, keep us silent while the death toll rises to over 45,000 people in Gaza.

We have stated our demands time and time again. However, the university remains insistent on being complicit to genocide and would rather call the riot police on its own students and staff, rather than stand on the right side of history.

Come and join us in demanding an end to our University’s ties to apartheid and genocide. Bring whatever resources you can, as much food and supplies as possible, and join us in the streets as we take back our university.

After the violence our communities experienced at the hands of the police—which were called in and enabled by #Utrecht University and the mayor of Utrecht—it is imperative to remember where our strength comes from. As the death toll rises in Gaza, we the students and staff of #UtrechtUniversity have repeatedly called on the board to perform their moral and ethical duties of fully boycotting and divesting from the Zionist entity of #Israel.
