Two more deaths inside Harris County Jail mark 15 in-custody deaths this year

The sheriff's office said that 34-year-old Pebbles Girardi suffered a sudden medical emergency inside of her cell at the Harris County Jail last Friday, only two days after she was booked into the jail. She was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital and pronounced dead.

It was an historic vote - we're the first citizen oversight board in the nation to have this power - and it's going to go a long way towards making our jails safer

That Martinez is blaming the victims instead of addressing the need for change by her department seems par for the course tho. She says people aren’t asking for help, but the article itself says Callen Lines was very vocal and calling out in her last hours!

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez grilled about jail deaths after appearance before state commission

At least 12 people have died in the Harris County Jail this year, including Alexis Cardenas, a 32-year-old man who recently died during a struggle with officers who were escorting him to the exit door. His sister was among those to question Gonzalez after Thursday's meeting in Austin.
