Anyone who thinks we merely need to get back to the rule of the Democratic Party of #Clinton, or even #Obama, is part of the problem. It's true that that would be better than the uninterrupted continuation of Trumpian fascism. But those Democrats paved the way for Trump. Clinton gave us #NAFTA and the obscene expansion of intellectual property law, among other things. Obama helped the private health insurance industry whittle down #SinglePayer first to the "public option", and then to the #ACA and its "marketplace". And the ever-increasing funneling of the nation's wealth to the #oligarchy continued unabated.

Is it any wonder that so many found fascism alluring, when its perceived only alternative was so useless? Radical change is not a luxury but a necessity; it is the only kind of change that has any chance of enduring — as opposed to setting the stage for the return of fascism.

Any action to make the Democratic Party truly useful will need to be of the nature of a hostile takeover. Its current leadership are in the service of the #oligarchy as much as the fascists are. #JackassParty

Everyone who ever said #VoteBlueNoMatterWho should have this etched into their memory forever. Some Republicans defected to the cause of at least limiting the horror — but John #Fetterman voted for unlimited #war and #dictatorship.

Accounts like this exist solely for the purpose of hostile interaction, usually without prior contact, to push a particular propaganda angle — in this particular case, apologism for the #DemocraticParty leadership, including slander of its Left critics as supporters of Trump and MAGA. #JackassParty

The Fediverse gains nothing from the presence of such accounts. On the contrary, their toxic activity detracts from constructive interaction here, including good-faith debate. These accounts may well be paid trolls, or even LLM agents tasked with a propaganda assignment. But whether they are in those categories or not, they have no legitimate place here.

@arrrg CHARMING. One of the four #Dems in favor of #warrantless #wiretapping is Rep. Josh #Gottheimer, who is also the sponsor of the infamous operating-system-level "age verification" bill (with the Orwellian name "Parents Decide") that would effectively require a remote kill switch for every PC. (His Republican cosponsor is the notorious election denier Rep. Elise #Stefanik.)

Always remember: not only are ALL of the #Republicans our deadly enemies, so are NEARLY all the #Democrats. This Nazi vermin #Gottheimer is merely the worst of a bad lot. #JackassParty

@tompearce49 The #USA should learn a lesson from this. When fascism menaces, neoliberalism always loses, going further Left always wins. The #AOC's and #Mamdani's are the only part of the #JackassParty worth salvaging. Anyone who says anything like "wE hAvE tO gO WiTh gAviN #Newsom tO bE eLeCtAbLe" doesn't merit a rational response. Answer them with a cannonade of rotten tomatoes.

@ApostateEnglishman If I may offer a perspective from the #USA: it looks as though #Labour has accomplished the feat of becoming even more useless than our "Democratic" #JackassParty. I had great hopes for #YourParty initially, but they've now wedged themselves to the point that it looks like the best option in #UK party politics is the #GreenParty.

@DemocracyMattersALot AND MOST OF THE DEMOCRATS. It's no accident that when the #Republicans need a few #Democrats to pass obscenities like funding the #ICEstapo, they can always get them. And it isn't the same ones every time. They take turns to limit the damage to their image. Just as with #Starmer in the UK, they talk a different line, but when the chips are down, they back the same interests. I can believe that #Mamdani for example is truly different. But the vast majority of the Democratic Party leaders are wolves in sheep's clothing. #JackassParty

@DaveMWilburn @Nonya_Bidniss AND the #Dems have a LOT of problems of their own. Most of them are ALSO #oligarch-owned, just playing a different role than the open fascists. Their refusal to make any real inroads toward reversing the concentration of wealth helped to create the conditions where many were willing to take fascism seriously as an option. #JackassParty

@heidilifeldman Dems like #Schumer serve the #plutocracy as reliably as the Nazis do, maybe even more so. Their failure to prevent the already rich from getting the lion's share of produced wealth, created the conditions that could make Trump look attractive to large sectors of the public.

Yes, the Republican leaders are our flat-out enemies, but so are most of the leadership of the Democrats. #JackassParty
