Jack in the Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum). This plant is a member of the Arum family, many of which have foul smelling flowers to attracts their pollinators which are typically flies.

Jack in the Pulpit contains calcium oxylate crystals which irritate the digestive tract, an adaptation to deter herbivores. Some species such as wild turkeys feed on the leaves and the red fruit that will follow this flower.

The Jack-in-the-pulpits are out! Arisaema triphyllum is a perennial wildflower native to parts of the Midwest and eastern North America. It grows best in shaded, moist woodland habitats. In spring, it produces male or female flowers (depending on energy reserves); the berries ripen in late summer, turning bright red.

I have #JackInThePulpit growing naturally in many places of my yard. It is a great ground cover type plant, somewhat ephemeral, but not until the very end of summer if it likes where it is growing.
Jack In The Pulpit is a unique, distinctive and intriguing native wildflower that blooms in the spring in the forests in Guelph Ontario Canada. This striped Brown Dragon has deep maroon and green coloring and you can just see Jack standing at the pulpit.
