Today's #303day so it is very fitting that TIL about Charanjit Singh's Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat; a 1982(!) album of classical Indian ragas entirely performed on #TB303, #TR808 and a #Jupiter8 synths.
It was pretty much forgotten everywhere -- including in India -- until re-discovered around 2010, and then credited as the first Acid House record, since it predates Phuture's Acid Trax by five years!

I've listened to it twice in a row today, grinning all the way through it!

Revisiting the Jupiter 8, I've had this since 1983 and it still excites me.

Besides the drums, track starts with a #Solina #String Ensemble. For bass, I ended up using an #Alesis #Quadrasynth for a #Vox organ patch for part of it (the other part being a #Moog D), a #Roland #Jupiter8 (JP-08) for some of the tremolo chords (love that #synth sound), a Roland Juno-106 (HS-60) for the main melody while a #Yamaha FB-01 (a very cool pad sound), Casio CZ-101 & Octave Cat complement those. Finally, the solo in the middle is done on a Sequential Six-Trak (the Drumtrak's brother).
Do you know which album of the #80s had these enormous #synthesizers list?

There was a lot of stone. And a lot of wind. And, surprisingly, not enough fridge magnets to completely bury the real textures of the place.

It was a cold December day in Mtskheta — the kind where the wind finds every gap in your coat, and the stone beneath your feet feels like it’s been around longer than time itself.

Important things are sometimes closer than we think. 400 kilometers along the turquoise coast road to Kaş in May 2024 — just to realize that I’ve been living by the real Mediterranean for almost two years. Better late than never.
