THE YORK FACTORY EXPRESS: FORT VANCOUVER TO HUDSON BAY 1826-1849
In 1827, botanist David Douglas crossed the Rocky Mountains with Edward Ermatinger's York Factory Express, and with them he made his way down the Athabasca River toward Fort Assiniboine. He was on his way home to England. #Journeys #YorkFactoryExpress #ABHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/fifth-leg/
THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
In 1823, and in 1828, two parties of canoers paddle west along the length of the beautiful Churchill River, on their way to Ile-a-la-Crosse. This is a part of the route that every man who is travelling north to the Arctic travels. #ThreeJourneysNorth #Journeys #Saskatchewan #SKHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/two-canoes-seven/
THE HBC BRIGADES: CULTURE, CONFLICT, & PERILOUS JOURNEYS
Joachim Lafleur worked on the west side of the Rocky Mountains for years, and had a few amusing quirks that made the traders laugh. Still, in spite of that, he played an important role in the history of the HBC in the west. #TheHBCBrigades #WestOfTheMountains #WAHistory #Journeys https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/joachim-lafleur/
THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
In 1823, and a few years later in 1828, two parties of canoers travelled north to Ile-a-la-Crosse though the waters of the upper Churchill River. The Churchill is still a wild and wonderful river, a long stream of lakes and portages that make canoeing a pleasure. #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth #Manitoba #Saskatchewan https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/two-canoes-six/

THE YORK FACTORY EXPRESS: FORT VANCOUVER TO HUDSON BAY, 1826-1849
In 1827, botanist David Douglas left the Columbia district with the outgoing York Factory Express, but decided to cross the Rocky Mountains on his own. Of course he got lost, but the HBC men were used to the English visitors getting lost. #Journeys #YorkFactoryExpress #ABHistory #BCHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/david-douglas-rockies/
TWO JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
The Sturgeon Weir River was such a violent river that the early French traders called is the Maligne -- or Wicked River. The name stuck and was used for many years, for obvious reasons... #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth #Manitoba https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/wicked-river/
THE HBC BRIGADES: CULTURE, CONFLICT, & PERILOUS JOURNEYS
John Lee Lewes came from a family that was involved in the theatre, and when he worked in the HBC trade he dressed as if he was still in the theatre. In other words, he was a fop. #Journeys #TheHBCBrigades #Athabasca #WAHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/fur-trade-fop/
THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
In 1823, and later in 1828, two parties of men paddle up the Sturgeon Weir River from Cumberland House on their way to Portage du Traite and the Churchill River. In this case, both parties are travelling west, but by the same route that those who go north also travel. #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth #MBHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/two-canoes-five/
THE YORK FACTORY EXPRESS: FORT VANCOUVER TO HUDSON BAY, 1826-1849
Finan McDonald worked for the North West Company under David Thompson on the West side of the Rockies. When the Nor'Westers were overtaken by the HBC, McDonald worked for them for a few more years before retiring. He was known for wrestling Bison bulls (a fight he sometimes lost). #Journeys #YorkFactoryExpress #BCHistory #MOHistory #SKHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/finan-mcdonald-2/
THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
In the years 1823, and 1828, two brigades of canoes head west carrying two different men by two different routes to the west side of the Rocky Mountains. Both parties arrive at Cumberland House where they will leave the #Saskatchewan River and head north up the Sturgeon-Weir. #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth #MBHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/two-canoes-four/
