Had a wonderful experience at #JOTAJOTI over the weekend, possibly the quickest way to learn for a someone new to the world of #amateurradio to learn things. I've written up about it at https://ham.bharathpalavalli.com/posts/20241020175849-jotajoti_2024_experience_log/.
Figure 1: My first HAM memorabilia In the third full weekend of October each year, Scouts organise a Jamboree on the Air together with a Jamboree on the Internet (JOTA-JOTI) which aims to connect scouts all over the world using amateur radio. I heard about the jamboree at the meeting of the local amateur radio club, Bangalore Amateur Radio Club (BARC) on 13th October, 2024. They meet on second Sunday of every month at The Bharat Scouts and Guides Head Quarters in Bangalore. I was curious about the experience of setting up a station in the field and thought it could be a learning experience for me.
Taking part in my first #JOTAJOTI tomorrow, keen to now how the Scouts take to #amateurradio. There seem to be a lot of Scout clubs that are active around here, would be nice to try and get them to make some DX QSOs, and mine while I’m at it.
I needed a simple code lock for this years #jotajoti #scout event - won’t reveal why just yet 🙂
Everything these days revolves around microcontrollers and sure, easy to do, however I needed simplicity and 9V battery power, outside at potentially freezing temperatures and it also needs to be low cost, I plan to use at least three of them..
Came across this simple circuit, almost too simple to be true, but it does the job just fine: push the four buttons in the right order and the output is enabled. Bingo 😃
Not overly secure but for my purposes, it’s a perfect little vintage code lock 🔐👌🏼☺️
