"About a year ago, we announced a hiatus on this project. Due to an outpouring of support, we pushed ourselves to continue, and over the last year, we’re proud of the interviews and roundups we’ve been able to produce.

"But as events in the United States have continued to escalate and conditions have grown more dire, it’s clear that IGD does not have the capacity to meet the moment as a hub for grassroots reporting and journalism. In the face of this reality, we feel its important to be clear about our inability to continue, in the hopes that more people can push themselves to build and grow media projects and platforms.

"We should all have a sober and clear-eyed view of what is happening. The current administration is attempting to consolidate extreme authoritarian power. People are being silenced and working-class people are being attacked. A police state is being constructed. Conditions are worsening. Inflation and prices are exploding and the entire country feels like it is slipping into dictatorship and economic collapse, as most people struggle to put food on the table.

"While this reality is bleak, we are excited about the flood of new media projects taking off and reporting from the ground level and covering evolving social movements. We want to take a moment to shout out some of these projects and encourage you to support and follow them... [Links in thread]

"As corporations and the State consolidate news into fewer hands and the far-Right pushes to silence those who speak out, the need for dynamic and vibrant grassroots media that amplifies working-class voices and gives a platform to social movements is needed now more than ever. "Report from the Civil Liberties Defense Center (#CLDC) on moves by the Trump administration to attack #LeftWing groups and ideologies as domestic terrorism.

"Yesterday the Trump regime signed yet another executive order that plainly states what many of us have known for a while now—that the #cabal currently in power are unabashed #fascists. Donald Trump declared that those opposed to #fascism, those who are #AntiFascist in this county — a country that has fought wars against fascism — are now labeled as '#DomesticTerrorists' by this current government — in essence, enemies of the state. Trump and his minions do not have the constitutional or statutory authority to create a terrorist designation pertaining to an amorphous political belief. Period.

"The #FirstAmendment continues to protect #FreedomOfSpeech and association, and would thus prevent any Congressional attempt to enact a law that would allow the US government to designate US groups as terrorist organizations based simply upon their political activities. But, as we know with this regime, there is the law as it has existed for over 100 years, and then there is their attack on the law.

"This EO targets '#Antifa' which is obviously short for 'antifascist.' Antifascists are opposed to fascists. Fascism rejects democracy. Fascists sign executive orders (no democratic process involved) that seek to malign or punish their political opponents, because that is the only way they can take more control from the people in a democratic country. Fascists attempt to undermine democratic elections, erase actual history, and manipulate words to falsely justify their propaganda. This EO is another example of Trump’s war of words — an attempt to recreate reality in order to solidify a fascist #dictatorship."

"The second Trump administration has officially begun and less than a month in, we are already in a #ConstitutionalCrisis. As the #Trumpian state embraces the threat of ignoring court orders, it also risks pushing the US into an all out #TechnoDictatorship. But as the line between the State and the far-Right becomes increasingly blurred – the question must be asked, what does the antifascist struggle mean when an oligarch like Trump is in power? We don’t have any easy answers, but antifascists have a lot of skills that we can bring to the table: both in terms of analysis, understanding the players in the unfolding terrain, and skills that we can share with people.

"More importantly, we have movement memory of battles fought and lessons learned: from the working-class kids who formed the backbone of #AntiRacistAction (#ARA) and took on the #KKK and neo-Nazi skinheads, to the fight against the #AltRight during Trump’s first term, which saw tens of thousands of people hitting the streets against #WhiteSupremacists. These past struggles can inspire and inform what is happening today.

"And there’s a lot to do. With the pardoning of the January 6th rioters, Trump has signaled that far-Right loyalists will receive a pass from the State to engage in violence against enemies of the regime. This is a reality that only amplifies what we saw during the first Trump administration, when Chad Wolf’s DHS pushed for #antifascists to be targeted by law enforcement and for the state to downplay the threat from the far-Right. This move lead to federal forces descending on Portland, OR during the #GeorgeFloydUprising, and the outright assassination of #MichealReinoehl. The more we can build public opposition to this new reality and encourage widespread #resistance to Trump’s policies, the safer we all will be."

"Judging from what has been pushed thus far, there are several legal measures most likely to be used once Trump returns to Washington. One would be deporting foreign college students in the U.S. on a visa after they’re found to have openly advocated for #Hamas or another U.S.-designated terror group, or after they participated in an unauthorized campus protest and were suspended, expelled or jailed.

Another measure would be to pursue federal prosecutions of #demonstrators who block synagogue entrances or disrupt Jewish speakers at events. A third approach is to charge #protest leaders and nonprofits that aid in fundraising for protest groups with failing to register with the U.S. Justice Department as an 'agent of a foreign principal.' And a fourth avenue is to open investigations into protest leaders who are in direct contact with U.S.-designated terror groups while advocating on their behalf.

"…#AmericaFirstLegal has in the past year filed four lawsuits that provide a glimpse into how the Trump administration could differ from its predecessor. America First Legal alleges in the suits that the State Department, the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Education have protected pro-Hamas extremists.

"In court papers and in letters to several federal oversight officials, America First Legal has also said it believes the Justice Department should have forced several leaders of pro-Palestinian groups to report themselves under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, known as #FARA, which requires individuals acting as 'an agent of a foreign principal' to register themselves."
