I have completed an Art! This is an early 16th century Iznik design modeled from a tile in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, featured as Pattern Study 3 in Esra Almahal's superb book on Islamic Biomorphic patterns.

Holbein gouache (CMY pallette ftw!) on Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper.

I'm not really on IG anymore, because meta, etc., so here's my most recent art! I learned the galaxy-painting technique from a session taught by Lieve Oudejans, and the geometric pattern is #7 from Ameet Hindocha's book '12 Twelves'.

(Please don't judge the geometry too much; I had to paint the lines freehand because if I used a ruler it took forever for them to dry. Also, they didn't show up through the watercolour as clearly as I'd hoped)

I have committed an art! Constructed this beast back in May but only had the brainspace to paint it this weekend.

In my intro post I CREATED the hashtage #IslamicGeometricArt, and then never followed through. Time to pay up! Here's some Islamic Geometric Art that I made back in January and then stuffed in a folder. It's design 78 from serap ekizler sönmez's superb 3-volume tome on The Geometric Language of Anatolian Seljuk Art.

More to come! I've been busy during this break.
