A spontaneous riverside walk along the Isar proved that even modest outings can surprise. With frosty peaks in the distance and spring’s first whispers – green grass, some flowers — we traded grand hikes for quiet moments. A lazy morning turned into a perfect winter hike

A slow start to the day left me hesitant about hiking, but I remembered that I wanted to scout a route. A day started with low expectations and quite some doubt turned into unexpected joy and even the first signs of spring!

Some days, the weather doesn’t invite adventure — just cold, wind, and low clouds. Last Tuesday was one of those days, and I nearly stayed in. But I opted for a quick “training mountain” hike. The closed summit trail forced an early turnaround, yet the descending clouds turned an ordinary workout into a surprise photo session.

today was a totally grey day. Very low hanging clouds. Actually a superb inversion -- if I would have had the time for a walk to the mountains. Yet other topics were on my schedule for today.

A familiar Mountain never gets Old

Some hikes don’t need grand destinations or dramatic views — they just need to feel right. This solo trip from May 2026 was one of those satisfying days on a mountain I’ve climbed countless times. The route makes little logical sense, the summit is often crowded, and the descent rarely cooperates with photography. But none of that matters when the scrambles feel just challenging enough, and the path just satisfies.
