Pour mon #vendredilecture un récit de voyage au féminin. Cela se passe au Colorado en 1873. Isabella Bird transcrit tout ce qu'elle observe et ressent dans les lettres envoyées à sa sœur Henrietta. Elle est fine observatrice, son regard reste marqué par le racisme à l'égard des Amérindiens, elle n'a peur de rien et a soif de découvrir la beauté du monde.
Pour le lectorat, une immersion dans un autre temps, un autre espace, à travers le regard décalé d'une belle plume.

In the course of reading Isabella Bird's "The Englishwoman in America" I found-out that on the Nineteenth Century's Mississippi a 'sawyer' was a submerged stand of trees that looked vaguely like a sawmill's blade and could affect a ship's hull similarly…making the name 'Tom Sawyer' roughly equivalent to 'Dennis the Menace'.
