There was a time when I was passively #irreligious.
Over the past 20 years, though, I've become fervently #antireligious.
I refuse to stay #silent.
Had a conversation today with a friend of mine who has recently found god. I love my friend, they are an amazing person, but it was an infuriating conversation.
Why do people to come to religion or rediscover religion later in life have be so evangelical about it?
I’m an atheist. I have been since I was a teen. But I don’t weave it into every conversation.
For context, I was complaining about my shitty love life which has been a topic of conversation between us before. And his solution was that I should pray about it. Also, that I should resign myself to not finding love because that’s when miracles happen.
I don’t care if anyone is religious, I appreciated him saying he would pray for me (that’s like anyone saying they’ll hold you in their thoughts), and I’m glad that he’s found something that makes his life better.
But just, maybe, don’t be so heavy handed with it when talking to someone who is irreligious.
