An orgy of Art Nouveau ironwork supports a staircase of the Grand Palais, at Paris , France. May 2026. Opened in the year 1900 for the Universal Exposition, the impressive building still pulls in millions of people for various exhibitions annually.

By far my favourite bit of architectural ironwork in Glasgow, and possibly anywhere in the world! It can be found on D.B. Dobson's 1902 Art Nouveau commercial building at 50 Darnley Street in Glasgow.

The uppermost section of the 1901 cast-iron Saracen Fountain in Alexandra Park in Glasgow. Designed by David Watson Stevenson, it was made by Walter MacFarlane's Saracen Foundry in Possilpark. It was created for the Glasgow International Exhibition, held in 1901 in Kelvingrove Park. At the end of the festival it was removed and re-erected in Alexandra Park in 1914.

This station was built for the Caledonain Railway Company as part of what is now the Argyle Line in the 1890s. This line, and the stations along it, were closed in 1964. When the line re-opened in 1979, the Glasgow Cross Station was replaced by a new one on Argyle Street, but it remains as a ghost station below Glasgow Cross.

As they walk along St Vincent Place in Glasgow, few people will give these metal screens around a modern toilet block a second glance, but if you do, you'll see they bear the monogram of the Caledonian Railway Company. This is because they were originally made for the Glasgow Cross Railway Station under Trongate.

The allegorical figure of Art by David Watson Stevenson on the Saracen Fountain in Alexandra Park in the East End of Glasgow. The rendering of the folds of the clothing on this figure is just superb. This fountain was created by Walter Macfarlane's Saracen Foundry for the 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition in Kelvingrove Park, and was only moved to its current location in 1914.

An owl hiding under the canopy of the 1897 Queen Victoria Jubilee Fountain in Overtoun Park in Rutherglen. While there are many monuments celebrating Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887, there are not nearly as many marking her Diamond Jubilee ten years later. This fountain was created by the Saracen Foundry on Possilpark in the north of Glasgow.
