IronFox 150.0.2 Changes ...

GitLab

For the next #IronFox release, we intend to remove built-in DNS over HTTPS providers that do not have their addresses signed with DNSSEC and/or do not enforce DNSSEC for domains that support it. We're making this change because we believe it's our responsibility to hold the default selection of providers to the highest possible standards, and due to the improvement in privacy and security that it will provide for users.

The following providers will be impacted:

- AdGuard
- AdGuard (Unfiltered)
- NextDNS
- Quad9
- Wikimedia

Unfortunately, as Quad9 is one of the providers impacted, we intend to switch the default provider for new users to Mullvad (Base).

If you are currently using any of the effected providers, your choice will be respected, and they will remain your selected DNS provider after updating, though we would strongly recommend switching to one of the other built-in providers if possible.

We wanted to share this announcement before release to make users aware and get feedback around this change. We look forward to hearing what the community thinks!

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane. — That Privacy Guy!

Google Chrome is downloading a 4 GB Gemini Nano model onto users' machines without consent, with no opt-in, no opt-out short of enterprise tooling, and an automatic re-download every time the user deletes it. The pattern is identical to the Anthropic Claude Desktop case I wrote about last month, but the scale is between two and three orders of magnitude larger. This article does the legal analysis and, for the first time, the environmental analysis. The numbers are not small.

IronFox 150.0 IMPORTANT: We've officially migrated our issue tracker

GitLab

We have the year 2026 and after all this time it is still a royal pain in the ass to export and import #Firefox bookmarks on #Android. 😩 And third-party solution such as #Floccus are still not available for Android.

Any other suggestions or workarounds (other than a Firefox account)?

Ironfox on Android does not autocomplete what I'm typing based on history, it seems to work only for bookmarks and other tabs. I do have history enabled, so I see visited URLs when I open the history. Which setting do I need for autocompleting URLsfrom history In the URL bar?

#ironfox #android

Hi everyone, we, #IronFox, are excited to announce that we’ve officially migrated our issue tracker to @Codeberg : https://codeberg.org/ironfox-oss/bugs/issues. **Issues will no longer be accepted on GitLab and in any repo outside of this one**.

This will allow us to be far better organized and more efficient/productive - as instead of having several different issue trackers (one for each of our repos) across two different sites (GitLab and Codeberg), we’ll now have a single, unified, and accessible place for all issues. It’ll also make it a lot easier for users to navigate and search through existing/already filed issues.

We look forward to hearing what the community thinks of this change!
