An old postcard (unfortunately undated) that lampooned the service provided by the #Skibbereen to #Schull Tramway. The journey from Skibbereen to Schull, of just over 15 miles, with stops at stations along the way, took in the region of 80 minutes. The tramway operated between 1886 and 1947.

The twelve arch viaduct at Ballydehob was constructed as part of the Skibbereen to Schull tramway. This rare image of it in use was taken by W.A. Camwell and appeared in the Railway Magazine of May 1940.

Long before the Wild Atlantic Way, we had the Prince of Wales Route to Glengarriff and Killarney, so named after an 1858 tour of the region by the Prince. This route was heavily promoted, especially by railway companies. This map of the route is from a 1903 brochure of the Cork, Bandon & South Coast Railway Company. Sadly today much of the rail tracks in this map are long gone.
